Mini Baja is a
collegiate engineering competition in which students design and build an off
road vehicle for competition. The competition is designed to use the intuitive
design of students in order to win, rather than more power or money. The car is
designed around a spec Briggs and Stratton ten horsepower engine. This
forces students to think of creative suspension and gearing combinations in order to win
at competition.
Competition is
based on a points system, with different sub categories. These
competitions are based on Appearance, Design and Engineering, Cost
Effectiveness, Braking, Acceleration, Hill Climbing, Tractor Pull, and Top
Speed. This year the NIU Mini Baja Team will be competing in our back yard in
Peoria, Illinois, USA. The competition is sponsored by Cat and will be held on
May 29th - June 1st 2008.
